Naar een nieuw toekomstbestendig afvalwaterzuiveringssysteem in Utrecht

RWZI Utrecht

Water authority Hoogheemraadschap de Stichtse Rijnlanden, abbreviated HDSR, manages the sewage treatment of Utrecht with a capacity of 450,000 PE. At this site, situated in the center of the city of Utrecht, domestic wastewater treatment and sludge handling takes place. Brightwork worked out an elaborate master plan including OPEX and CAPEX cost estimates for a variety of solutions.

A preliminary design has been made and process solutions have been compared, looking at effectiveness, sustainability and economic value. Systematic and objective comparison of the solutions were crucial for making the right decisions. This enabled HDSR to select a best-fit solution with reasonable cost development, innovation and energy saving. The result of this extensive study led to HDSR’s decision to realize a new treatment plant and to remove the existing waterline and sludge digestion. The construction of the new treatment plant started in 2017.
